I’m excited to announce my upcoming exhibition Kayfabe. This show in Madison Wisconsin will act as my MFA Qualifier exhibition; and will feature new works along with some returning favorites.

Show will run from Feb 9-13 with a reception Feb 12 from 6-8pm

Funny How Time Flies…

I’ve been listening to a lot of Tears For Fears lately. Specifically their album Songs From The Big Chair. I have a bit of a big ego (my friends lovingly call it a god-complex), so you would think that the song that’d I’d be most fixated on from the album is ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’. But really it isn’t a song that has me hung up on this album, rather an in-between moment. People don’t really listen to entire albums very often anymore. We have playlists poorly curated with the songs we think are our favorite. We don’t really get to enjoy the in-between moments in an album anymore, the perfect transitions from one song to the next as intended by the artist. In this case the transition from ‘Broken’ to ‘Head Over Heels’. It’s not seamless. There’s no crossfade. The beat doesn’t carry over perfectly. Every recording of the album I’ve heard has a quarter-second of silence between the two songs indicating the switch. I’m not a musician so maybe I don’t understand the nuances of song production that really makes this a perfect transition. I don’t have to. I at least know enough to know that the melody is shared by both songs which foreshadows ‘Head Over Heels’. You would think that this makes them the same song, but they’re two songs that can stand on their own, promise. Two songs written for one another vaguely about something. Best listened to through your car’s speakers, or with both headphones in, on your way to the next thing.
